About Me

We connect to our servers over our local area network, which is supported by our IT firm. This is a typical setup for companies with 10 people, LayerOnline like mine. And Augustine's company too. And our businesses are structured differently too. I have a couple of servers and workstations. We connect remotely using Windows Terminal Services. Like so many small companies, I have all of our systems and data in-house. Except she's not set up that way.

Overall, the Google calendar system has been a major improvement for our small business, and solved most of the problems we had with both the Microsoft exchange server and Blackberry services. The best part is since we have less than 5 people that need to share each other calendar in a group, it is all for free. I think the limit is 50 per office. If you don't need calendar sharing with more than your partner, assistant and home, this is a no brain-er.

And then there are more ads. Good strategy to get customers to pay a little? 50 GB of storage is great, but there are ads. The other facet that has to be factored in to the free account option is that your files are subject to be removed due to inactivity. So if you are the type of user who may upload something once and just forget about it, the files are likely to have disappeared the next time you log in. Have I mentioned anything about the ads? Everything to do with MediaFire is ad-supported and with the free account there is no way to escape it.

However, it is not obvious that your risk of loss is any greater in The Cloud than it is anywhere else. There is no guarantee of security. The examples with my bank and with my investment company have helped reassure me that they are proactively trying to minimize the risk of loss. My confidence in reasonable security in The Cloud is based upon my doing business over the Internet since the early 1990s when the Internet opened to commercial sites.

Doing that on a hard drive would take up far too much space and time. The best applicant tracking systems will store resume information and allow you to search for specific skill sets by keyword. Web based recruiting software keeps your records online, LayerOnline safe from viruses and computer crashes. It's more compact, takes up no disc space at all, and will give you better search and LayerOnline storage capabilities. You can save copies to your hard drive if you like, they could come in handy if you don't have internet access at some point, but you'll find that other than that you'll rely on the online version completely.

Or perhaps your senior thesis is due and someone pops into your dorm and steals your laptop. Seriously, can you afford not to use cloud storage? If they are something precious to you like family photos or archived records sometimes they can't ever be replaced and you are totally screwed. Often we can't get those files back. Do you ever work on something from your job at home like a presentation that is due Monday and you are putting the finishing touches on it?

Firstly, LIST ALL KEY DATA without which you would not be able to exist. Accountability is important so hold your people - and yourself - accountable for its implementation. Commit this procedure to writing. Set about backing up tis key data. Put in place a business data backup SYSTEM.

It is also helpful in insuring you have access to documents and files no matter where you are physically. Once you are attached to the cloud you have access to an enormous amount of resources around the world. The 'cloud' is just a term for the Internet system of connected computers. In other words a document stored in the cloud can be accessed from work, home, school, or from a vacation spot anywhere on Earth. This can be a big help in increasing the capacity of your storage and not having to save all this to your local drive.

Starting with Wuala - This is the highlight software with the drive, LaCie's Wuala is LaCie's cloud storage system. This hard drive comes with 10GB of LaCie's Wuala cloud storage for absolutely free. The best thing about this particular system, which makes it superior LayerOnline to competitors such as Dropbox, because only you have access to it and all your files are securely encrypted prior to uploading them to the cloud.

There is a big savings on hard drives and energy use here if we use this right, never mind the wasted downtime of upgrades and moves. There is a green benefit to the cloud as well, fewer computers, better managed means less waste. If we all store our data in the cloud at data farms, which can run at 75% efficiency or better, instead of three different hard drives somewhere in our homes.
